US Overseas Citizen Voters, Military Voters and Families:
It has come to our attention that ballots sent from abroad by registered mail with tracking numbers are transitioning through US Customs. Some may be “stuck” in Customs.
We have launched an effort to identify and release those ballots. USPS are being informed by us of all reported ballot issues and is taking actions to remedy them.
IMPORTANT
International tracking systems for registered mail from abroad to the US will NOT give you correct updates. There is virtually no integration between international and US registered mail tracking.
BEFORE you report your ballot as “stuck in Customs”, please take the following actions:
1 - Verify your current ballot status with the USPS Tracking System, and/or another global tracker such as parcelsapp. Check to see if there is more information on the whereabouts of your ballot through these tracking services. Often, there is:
- If you see that the item is still in “ICS" or “Customs”, then there may be an issue to report.
- If it is “in transit” or “moving to the next facility”, it has moved out of Customs and should be on its way. It may actually have even been delivered.
- Go to the next step.
2 - Check your ballot through your State's Ballot Tracking System, which you can find on our Where's My Ballot page. Click the check mark to get to your state's system before reporting any problem, because you might find out that your ballot has arrived.
- If you don't find it, go to the next step.
3 - Report your undelivered ballot to your Election Office - To look up your election office, go to our Election Official Directory. There you will find telephone numbers, email addresses and office hours to make this step easier for you. Election officials have been very responsive to these reported issues. Absolutely call yours.
We implore you to execute the simple checks listed above before reporting a stuck ballot. If the steps above do not bring you any good results, please let us know so we can try to help.
Send an email to us at [email protected] with your TRACKING NUMBER and any other relevant information. We will add it to the list of ballots for which we have requested investigation, identification and release for delivery.
We are working with US Postal Service authorities to address this urgent issue! They will be made aware of your ballot situation and we expect them to communicate back about it with us.
