General Information

Registration

You can register to vote or update your registration information:

  • by mail
  • in person at your local elections office
  • at some public assistance offices and motor vehicle offices
  • at the polls on Election Day

Early Voting

Wyoming offers in-person absentee voting in each county election office beginning 28 days prior to an election. Check with your local election office for precise dates and times of early voting.

Absentee Voting

Any voter may request an absentee ballot for an election within the current calendar year.

Eligibility Requirements

You are eligible to vote in Wyoming if you:

  • Are a U.S. citizen
  • Are at least 18 years old by Election Day
  • Have been a state resident for at least 30 days prior to the election
  • Live in the precinct in which you want to vote

You are NOT eligible to vote in Wyoming if:

  • You are registered to vote in another state
  • You are in prison or jail for a felony conviction.
  • A judge has specifically ruled that you are not able to vote.

Restorative Requirements

Convicted individuals that are first time, nonviolent felons, will automatically have their right to vote restored when they complete their supervision or are discharged from an institution on or after January 1, 2010. Individuals who completed their sentence prior to January 1, 2010, are required to apply for restoration of the right to vote.

You may preregister to vote in Wyoming

  • if you will be 18 by Election Day

If you are a student, you are eligible to vote in Wyoming if:

  • You reside in Wyoming but are attending college in another state
  • You reside in another state but attend college in Wyoming

As identification, you can use a student photo ID if it was issued by the University of Wyoming, Wyoming community college or Wyoming public school

Voter Registration

Beginning July 1, 2025, citizens of Wyoming must provide proof of residence and United States citizenship when registering to vote. To register to vote in Wyoming, you should provide one of the following:

  • Valid Wyoming Driver's License
  • Valid US Passport
  • Valid Tribal ID

If you do not have one of the documents in the list above, you may obtain a free Wyoming Identification Card from your local Driver Services office

Voting In-Person

Effective July 1, 2021, Wyoming voters are required to show an acceptable form of identification when voting in person. Any of the following documents will be accepted:

  • Medicare or Medicaid Card issued by the government
  • Valid Military ID
  • Medicare or Medicaid Card issued by the government
  • Valid Military ID
  • Valid Wyoming Driver's License
  • Wyoming ID Card
  • Valid US Passport
  • Valid ID Issued by Another State
  • Out of State Driver's License or Non-driver ID
  • Valid Tribal ID
  • Valid Student ID from State School

If you do not have these IDs, you must provide two or more of the following:

  • Valid ID Issued by Another State
  • Valid Federal issued ID
  • Draft Record
  • US Naturalization Documents
  • Certified Copy of US Birth Certificate
  • Certificate of Report of Birth issued by US Department of State
  • Voter Registration Card from another State or County
  • Social Security Card
  • Certificate of US Citizenship

Note that an original or certified birth certificate must bear an official seal
